The first-ever Technicolor representation of the Bluegrass State, KENTUCKY tells the tale of two feuding families in the horseracing world. Sally Goodwin (Loretta Young) falls for Jack Dillon (Richard Greene), aggravating the age-old feud between the two clans. The problem stems from Sally's uncle Peter (Walter Brennan), who has hated the Dillons since the Civil War. Attempting to mend the gap, Jack Dillon secretly trains Peter Goodwin's horse for the Kentucky Derby. When Goodwin finds out, he decides momentarily to withdraw the horse from competition, but then changes his mind. The horse wins, all is forgiven, but Peter Goodwin dies from the excitement. At the funeral, Peter's eulogy is read by a member of the Dillon family who'd been in a feud with Peter for nearly 70 years.Walter Brennan won one of his three Academy Awards for his work in the film.
